Sanwo-Olu and 9 others receive Hallmarks of Labor Leadership Award
the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the Hallmarks of Labor Award on Saturday for exemplary leadership and transparency in public health management and control of the COVID-19 epidemic in Nigeria.
It was as the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonaya Onu, congratulates him among others.
A statement by Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s chief press secretary, said that Sanwo-Olu received the award for successfully handling the COVID-19 pandemic and redressing what could have been a tragic episode for Nigeria, following the coronavirus outbreak around the world last year. .
Dr. Ogbonaya Onu, who was supported by Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, presented the award to the Governor at the 25th Anniversary of Hallmarks of Labor and Role Model Awards 2020/2021 held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking after receiving the award, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the award would continue to challenge him to do more for the people.
âI will say with all my sense of responsibility that I am the least qualified because I am the youngest among the laureates. What this shows us is that we, the younger generation, have something to look forward to.
âThis is something that will continue to challenge us and ensure that we do our best in looking at the level of commitment our fathers and mothers have made to this country. The Hallmarks Prize is indeed an exceptional prize. We are truly honored.
The United Nations, at the presentation of the award to Sanwo-Olu, congratulated the Governor of Lagos State for his efforts to manage and control COVID-19 during the pandemic period.
For his part, Tambuwal also congratulated Governor Sanwo-Olu and the people of Lagos State for the award, saying the award shows Governor Sanwo-Olu is doing very well.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Anyaoku praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s performance in Lagos, stating that “those of us who live in Lagos have very good reason to applaud you (Governor Sanwo-Olu ) “
