Improving Women’s Participation in the Labor Market: Bhupender Yadav to India Inc

Labor and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav urged India Inc to improve the participation of women in the labor market in India and ensure that women are in decision-making positions.

“To promote the rate of participation of women in the labor market, not only should there be greater participation of women in the labor market, but women should be considered in decision-making positions,” Yadav said in her interaction with human resources managers from several industries in all sectors.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) industry facilitated the interaction of senior officials of the Ministry of Labor with representatives from the manufacturing industry, recruitment agencies, automotive, construction and the hotel industry, among others, the labor ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, industry representatives suggested that the Ministry of Labor introduce guaranteed employment in urban areas, reorient the education curriculum to align with emerging technologies and improve the use of apprenticeship for job creation, while urging the government to deploy labor codes as soon as possible.

The Department of Labor also sought advice from India Inc on improving service delivery in the Organization of Employee Provident Fund and Employee Insurance Company, work from home, better use services of the national portal of career services and the improvement of the participation of women in the labor market, among others, It said.

In addition, such interaction would take place on a regular basis with all stakeholders and the government will seek the cooperation of CEOs and human resource managers in the industry in developing policies for the welfare of workers and for the creation of ‘decent jobs, concluded the minister.
