“The Labor government did the right thing by closing the Auckland Cycle Bridge,” said Simon Court, ACT transport spokesperson.

“The bridge has always been a bad idea, prompted by the lobbying of a small but noisy minority.

“When ACT revealed in June that the project had a cost-benefit ratio of 0.4-0.6, meaning taxpayers would lose 60 cents for every dollar invested in the project, it was clear the project was unsustainable. .

“The people of Auckland were clear they didn’t want this project. They want real solutions that will get them moving.

“If there is one thing this government is responding to, it is public pressure. It’s great that Transport Minister Michael Wood listened and could admit he was wrong, even though he cynically announced it before a two-week parliamentary recess to try to avoid questions and exams.
